(Back to top) GALSULFASE (Naglazyme™) is used to replace an enzyme that is missing in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis VI (also known as MPS VI or Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome). This medicine might help relieve some symptoms of MPS VI, such as improved physical stamina. This medicine is not a cure for MPS VI. A generic galsulfase injection is not yet available. What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine? (Back to top) They need to know if you have any of these conditions: •sleep apnea •fever or infection •an unusual reaction to galsulfase, medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives, or any human or hamster proteins •pregnant or trying to get pregnant •breast-feeding How should this medicine be used? (Back to top) Galsulfase is for injection into a vein. It is given as an infusion by a health care professional in a hospital or clinic setting. Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. What if I miss a dose? (Back to top) It is important to receive galsulfase on the schedule developed by your health care professional. If you cannot make an appointment to receive your infusion, contact your provider to reschedule as soon as possible. What drug(s) may interact with Galsulfase? (Back to top) •chloroquine •gentamicin •hydroxychloroquine Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines. (Back to top) Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible: •dizziness, lightheadedness or feeling faint •difficulty breathing or swallowing •fever or chills •skin rash or itchy skin •severe pain in chest, joints, or stomach •severe headache •swelling of the face, lips, or neck •signs of infection - fever or chills, cough, or sore throat •cloudiness of eyes or difficulty seeing •snoring that disrupts sleep Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome): •mild to moderate pain in chest, abdomen, and joints •diarrhea •cough •nausea/vomiting •tiredness What should I watch for while taking galsulfase injection?
